Broadcasting and Film

Since 1996 I have been a regular contributor to the RTE (national radio/televisoin) wild life programme on "The Mooney Show"

I have been a key figure in the research/preparation/presentation of live, six hour national radio broadcasts of the dawn chorus for over 20 years and also on a half hour RTE TV programme on the Dawn Chorus and an all-day "Mooney Goes Wild on Waders" programme which was a live RTE radio/TV simulcast. The 2016 broadcast of the Dawn Chorus won the Rose d'Or Award at the European Broadcasting Union's Entertainment Awards in Berlin under the category 'Radio Event Of The Year'.

I researched and presented a radio documentary on the Black-tailed Godwit for RTE Radio in 2004.

Between 2000 and 2008 I filming all aspects of Ireland’s natural heritage using a Canon XL miniDV camera and I have a substantial archive. My material has been used on a number of programmes on national TV including Mooney Goes Wild Dawn Chorus Special, Mooney Goes Wild on Waders”, 'A Little History of Irish Food', 'Estuaries', 'Ear to the Ground', and various wildlife reports on national TV news (RTE, Tg4, TV3).

In January 2005 I produced an interactive DVD called "Whales and Dolphins of Ireland" for the Irish Whale and Dolphin Group. I contributed video to this production as well as writing the script and doing the narration.

For 17 days in March 2006 I acted as cameraman for the IWDG Humpback Whale Expedition on the waters around the Cape Verde Islands on board a 49ft yacht.

In September 2006 I was commissioned by Chichester Harbour Conservancy in England to film and produce an educational/promotional DVD on a conservation project concerning Greenshanks. I worked closely with the ringing group and filmed them over a five day period. I then edited and produced and delivered the DVD in October 2006.

In 2007 I took part in and provided film for a short BBC TV documentary on the Icelandic Black-tailed Godwit.

RTE used my video material for an interactive CD on the Dawn Chorus they gave free in the RTE Guide in May 2007. I was also one of the vocal contributors on that CD.

In July 2008 I scripted and recorded a CD on bird listening as a hobby entitled “Birding By Ear” for the Irish National Council for the Blind.

In 2008/2009 I filmed, produced and edited an 80 minute educational DVD entitled 'The Bats of Ireland'. It was scripted and narrated by Irish bat expert Conor Kelleher. It was launched in September 2009.

Since them I have been involved in a number of radio and TV programmes promoting our natural heritage.
